Cherokee County Sheriff’s Multi-Agency Drug Seizure Protects Our Communities
Deputies in Cherokee County worked with partners from Union, Fannin, and Gilmer counties in Georgia on June 23 to seize methamphetamine and fentanyl before it reached local streets. Sheriff Chris Wood praised the strong cross-border teamwork. These efforts by our law enforcement heroes make a real difference for families in Murphy, Andrews, and across the area.

First Responders Prepare for Safe 4th of July Celebrations
With big events planned, our police, fire, and EMS teams are focused on crowd safety and quick response.
Andrews: The celebration is at the Recreation Park on Park Street. Opening ceremony at 11 a.m., food trucks, games, and fireworks around 8:30 p.m.
Murphy: The America 250 Heritage Festival runs downtown from 4 p.m. until dark with live music, Cherokee cultural performances, veteran recognition, family activities, and fireworks launched right from downtown.
Hayesville: The Freedom Festival is on the town square from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a parade led by veteran grand marshal Sam Davis Jr., followed by a fireworks show over Lake Chatuge at 9:45 p.m.
Our heroes in uniform will be out making sure everyone stays safe so we can all enjoy the holiday.
