Multi-Agency Meth Seizure Stops Load Bound for Cherokee County

On July 24, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, the NCSBI, Gilmer and Union County sheriffs in Georgia, and the DEA recovered more than a pound of methamphetamine destined for Cherokee County streets, plus earlier related seizures totaling over 21 ounces. All individuals named are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Andrews Woman Charged in Fentanyl Trafficking Probe

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Narcotics Division charged Lanessa Shenee’ Stroud of Andrews with conspiracy to traffic fentanyl following a July 13 search warrant. Digital evidence and suspected contraband were seized. All individuals named are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Town of Murphy Awarded $2.1 Million EDA Grant

The U.S. Economic Development Administration awarded Murphy $2.1 million through its FY 2025 Disaster Supplemental Grant Program to construct a new sewer lift station. The project moves critical infrastructure out of the floodplain, improves reliability for homes, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and the Riverwalk, and supports future growth. Dogwood Health Trust provided matching funds. Mayor Tim Radford said the investment protects Murphy’s future.

TomatoFEST Returns Saturday in Downtown Murphy

The fourth annual TomatoFEST runs Saturday, August 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the L&N Depot and Riverwalk. Free admission with cooking demos, family activities, local vendors, music, and a Bloody Mary contest for those 21 and older.

Copperhill Wins TDOT Traffic Signal Grant
